We take for granted expressions such as 'please...' & 'thank you!'. What is your opinion? Do such words make English a great and universal language?

Yes Its for our satisfaction of ego only. Both or one and same. The fragrance of regional will be aired with the word 'ji' only.

Actually every language has words like this as expressions of greeting and thanking. One who is more related and acquinted to Regional wants to be greeted in his local language for his ego satisfaction. But due overwhelming usage of Engish these words got prime importance in everyone's lives. Uneducated persons also using these words as a measure of status before others. So this makes english as great and uiversal language.

These two words have made people humble.English is a universal language and these two words are definately popular but I do not think the cause of making English a universal language.
