Day 5 1 John 5 1 John 5:1 Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and everyone who loves him who begat loves him also who is begotten of him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is he who came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three who bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. 8 And there are three who bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. 9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He who believes on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he who believes not God hath made him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who hath the Son hath life; and he who hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you who believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us: 15 And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 16 If any man sees his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them who sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sins not; but he who is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not. 19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness. 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. People believe many things about God, and even believe in many gods. John gave a clear picture of those who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. He showed them Satan can’t touch believers. Not that believers can’t sin, they can. However, there is sin that doesn’t lead to eternal death. In that believers don’t sin – and that sin is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. (KJV) John referred to what Jesus said when he said there is a sin unto death. True believers do not commit that sin. As Christians, it is hard to turn away from God and sin against the Holy Spirit. To do so, you would need to turn completely from Jesus Christ and deny He is God’s Son, and deny His death on the cross for your salvation. Solomon showed that a three-strand cord isn’t easily broken. When you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, you have the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit living in you. As such, it is impossible to sin against the Holy Spirit by denying any part of the godhead because they are one person and stand in total agreement with each other. Ecclesiastes 4:12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. (KJV) John 10:30 I and my Father are one. (KJV) As Christians, you know there was only one time when the Godhead was separate, and that was on the cross, when God the Father turned away from His Son because He cannot look on sin. Jesus bore the sins of every person from Adam to the last person who will be born before Jesus returns and destroys the Antichrist in the battle of Armageddon at the end of the Tribulation. Not before or since has the Godhead been separate. Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. You cannot separate the Godhead because they are one, just as you are three parts in one body, water, blood, and Spirit. Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (KJV) The breath of life is the Holy Spirit whom God breathed into man when He created him. You have the same breath in you when you accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. When you accepted Jesus, you became one with God. John 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. (KJV) With the Godhead living in you, it is almost impossible to deny Jesus and turn away from God. However, even the impossible can and does happen. Hebrews 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. (KJV) That is the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. When a Christian denies Jesus and turns from God, there is no turning back. It is the Holy Spirit who brings you to faith in Jesus Christ. Denying Jesus after accepting Him, is denying the work the Holy Spirit did in you. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for showing me Your love and keeping me in You. Give me Your strength as I remain in You until the day when You call me home. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 25 June 2019 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
