Martin Sheen might be too liberal, but Jed Bartlett was right on the mark

@wolfgirl569 and I were discussing the benefits of Netflix and I mentioned how the show West Wing is what my wife and I watch on Netflix every Monday night.
I noted how the issues the country was dealing with then all seem to be issues we're still dealing with today. This fact is troublesome considering the show was originally broadcast from Sept 1999 through May 2006. It seems the world hasn't made much progress over the years since. If anything, matters have gotten worse instead of better, especially over the last couple of years.
The writer's of the show did a good job in making Jed Bartlett look like the best President a nation could ask for. Then again, writers of shows and movies, like writers of novels and short stories, have the luxury of deciding how events unfold and what the outcomes will be. Even the most competent real-life Presidents don't have such a luxury.
Have you seen West Wing? Do you think Jed Bartlett, if he were a real person, was a good President?

Martin Sheen is a typical celebrity hypocrite. He is a die hard liberal but when it came to the homeless invading his posh Malibu, he didn't like it. The rich and famous never open their palatial estates to help immigrants and the homeless.

He's hard to pigeon hole. Sheen has been arrested several times while protesting for the rights of migrant workers. Then he slams the door on squatters moving into his town.
How many of us, though, who give to charity or volunteer in soup kitchens invite some of the homeless into our homes for a meal, a shower, and a good night's sleep on clean sheets in a comfortable bed? I wager the number is 0 or so close to 0 as to make no statistical difference.

@DWDavis I get what you are saying but these wealthy celebrities scream and yell the loudest. Jon Bon Jovi is another one and has a huge estate in New Jersey. I am not saying to invite the poor into his massive mansion but he has plenty of acreage to set up something for them. He could afford to build and maintain soup kitchens but none of them do but they posture for the media showing how much they "care." They desire open borders so their estates should be open to the people they claim to care about.

@JohnRoberts JBJ might not be inviting them onto his estate but he does put his money where homeless and hungry mouths are.
He's also built homes for people in need. His foundation works to give people a hand up, not a handout.
If you want to pick on celebrities who don't share the wealth, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, any of the Kardashians, or Donald Trump and his children would be much better examples.

@wolfgirl569 In the pre-Trump era, I followed politics more closely. When Trump actually won the nomination due to the dilution of the field by too many establishment candidates and then won the election with a little help Putin him there, I realized there wasn't much reason to bother anymore. While politics had long been referred to as a circus, the day America elected a genuine clown was the day I gave up hope on our electoral system.

@DWDavis I think thats why I havent watched it. I see enough politics on just the news. And with a new presidential race starting it will get even worse.

I never watched the West Wing when it was on, but I might watch it on Netflix. I am almost finished with the Office, another show I didn't watch when it was on TV, although I enjoyed it on Netflix.
