When you have a lot money, you tend to be prodigal. Something in you pushes you to go to malls. When you are there, your palms are itching and finally burns a hole. So many things that you want to buy. On the other hands, some people are sort of tight handed. These people won't let their money go out of their sealed pockets.
Which one are you?

I don't have a lot of money and live off a fixed income so I can't let that money slid through my hand to get stuff out from what I need to last me till next month.

That's better, so you have enough for the rainy days as well.

@yanzalong it all depends on what we have left over and how low we were on things we needed for the house.

You seem to be confused. A prodigal person is the one who left his family which doesn't want him to go and get back sorrowful. If you mean is person who has spent his money in extravagant and irresponsible way is spendthrift. He doesn't leave his family.

prodigal here is not as a noun modifier but as a predicative adjective meaning spend money carelessly. However I appreciate your input. Thank you.

@yanzalong okay. It could also mean to squander. Spendthrift is a noun.

For me, money is a myth. What I get is gone in bills, food, and gas for the car. If I have anything extra, I try to save it to add to the next month. I'm on a tight budget with no room for extras. So, I'm neither.
