1903 - George Orwell was born. He was a British novelist, essayist, critic and journalist. He is most famous for Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949). He died in 1950.
1945 - Carly Simon was born. She is an American singer/songwriter, musician and children's author. Some of her best-known songs: Anticipation, You Belong to Me, Coming Around Again, You're So Vain, Nobody Does it Better (from the 1977 James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me) and That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be. Her song Let the River Run from the movie Working Girl won an Academy Award, Grammy and Golden Globe.
1963 - George Michael was born. He was an English singer, songwriter and producer. In 1981 he formed the group Wham!. Songs: Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Freedom. In 1985 at Live Aid he sang Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me with Elton John. In 1987 he began his solo career. One of his most famous songs was Faith. He died in 2016.
