My dinner tonight might be a plate of plain rice. Not sure what else to be added to the rice. There are restaurants in my neck of the woods but I'd rather not buy anything from the restaurants. I heard that they put too much food flavoring in their food. My wife is very careful about using food flavoring. What about you, how do you use food flavoring?

Home made foods are worth the life time. But, I'll have outside when the situation demands. Occasionally, I feel there is no harm.

We don't use any flavourings with our staple rice.

Food flavoring is added to saucy fish or meat.

It is not possible to eat plain rice, if the rice is plain then I wish to add any curry or chutney or curd etc.

I use plain white rice at home. I am okay with eating out at the restaurants

We have several eateries in our place. They're selling good foods, no flavoring. Food flavoring is not good and they know it.

We must reduce the consumption of food flavoring. I agree with you.

@yanzalong Why reduce? Couldn't it be stopped and replace it by natural color, coming from nature or organic?

I use many spices and herbs in my cooking but I never use monosodium glutamate or sugar substitutes and I try to avoid them in things that I buy. Most restaurants here never use them either but Chinese restaurants, notoriously, use MSG still (though many seem to have moderated their use of it these days).

@yanzalong I haven't seen MSG for sale as such in the UK but many supermarkets stock a 'flavour enhancer' by Maggi which contains it (it's more or less a soy sauce with MSG in it) in the 'World Foods' section. By law, it has to be stated in the ingredients list on the packaging and one sometimes sees "Does not contain MSG" on labels.

No supermarkets in UK sell MSG. MSG is available in China Town. Is that right Owl About Mylot?

I very rarely eat rice from restaurants, and at home we generally eat boiled rice.

I never use any food flavours. It is harmful for our body. Better to avoid it.

You need to some curry with the rice.
