As the Everly Brothers said, a man in Kentucky sure is lucky to live down in Bowling Green. Not true! They don’t have a McAlister’s here! But anyway, I’ve been taking the slow route today, doing a little sightseeing in my home state. I’m resting up before more adventures (I have a place or two in mind, but if I’ll make it there is another story). Since everyone knows what the number one song is I thought I’d provide another bonus song with “summer” in the title.
BONUS #2: Sausalito Summernight - Diesel
A Dutch band who did a really good Steve Miller impersonation (this sounds infinitely better than anything Miller was doing at the same time), Diesel ended up a one-hit wonder in the U.S. This was that hit.
It’s an incredibly fun and funny look at a “simple” drive from L.A. to San Francisco in a disaster of a car. Everything that can go wrong with the car does, resulting in 200 gallons of gasoline for the nearly 400-mile drive (that’s two MPG!).
The song and the band are long forgotten, but this has always been a favorite of mine.
