Most of us are confused of this statement: "to forgive is to forget".
We always have a divided point of view for it's indeed impossible to forget those persons who did amiss in our life. Yes, we may forgive them but it's difficult for us to forget their misdeeds.
In my course of reading, I came across of this statement by Les Brown:
"Forgiving is not forgetting. It is remembering without anger." - Les Brown
It sounds acceptable. Isn't it? What do you think?

That's the usual reaction or disposition for the victim or aggrieved party.

I think that makes sense. We might not be able to forget some things but we don't hold a grudge.

@Nakitakona When something is easier said than done, the wise ones work harder at it, instead of giving up because something is hard. When the going gets tough then the tough get going!

Remember Alexander Pope's quote "To err is human, to forgive divine?:"
Forgiving is truly difficult because man, by nature, is human, prone to error. Precisely because of this human nature that man finds it hard to forgive.
Granted man says he has forgiven, the memory of the offense and the pain that goes with it, the heartache, are all stored in the bank, ready for reminiscing. Reliving the grief rekindles the anger. To say otherwise is hypocrisy.
That is why Ignatius of Loyola prayed for God to take away his will, his mind, his memory, so he can serve God unconditionally.
That is why, we are all only humans.

@Nakitakona What if there is no remorse on the offender's part?

Well said. Forgiving is to have a peace of mind.

The point is too subjective but the purpose is to forgive and not to hold any grudge anymore.

Sadly sometimes it is not possible to forget or to forgive.
