National Tapioca Day 1846 - Adolphe Sax patents the saxophone. He was a Belgian inventor that also invented the saxotromba, saxhorn and saxtuba. 1894 - Labor Day becomes an official United States holiday. 1926 - Mel Brooks was born. He is an American actor, director, producer, screenwriter and comedian. In the 1970s he directed many movies including The Producers, The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Silent Movie, High Anxiety, History of the World Part 1, Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. 1948 - Kathy Bates was born. She is an American actress and director. She has won 1 Academy Award, 3 American Comedy Awards, 2 Emmys, 2 Golden Globes, 1 Obie and 2 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her breakthrough film was Misery; and she's also starred in Fried Green Tomatoes, Dolores Claiborne and Titanic. 1986 - Kellie Pickler was born.
