Facts and History- 4th of July

July 4, 1776 is known as the day The Declaration of Independence was signed for America. July 4th is celebrated as our countries birthday. However, many do not know the our Declaration of Independence was actually signed on August 2, 1776. It was on July 4 that we officially declared our freedom from Great Britain and declared our self an individual nation, a nation that would go on to become a Constitutional Republic (not a Democracy), and the greatest nation on earth. I love America!!!
Here are some interesting facts about the 4th of July:
1. Eating salmon is a tradition in the New England states.
2. Massachusetts was the first state to recognize the holiday.
3. There are 15,000 firework celebrations every year.
4. Around 150 million hotdogs are consumed.
5. More beer is sold on this day than any other time of year.
6. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and James Monroe all died on the 4th of July, while Calvin Coolidge was born this day (all american presidents).
7. The first celebration took place on July 8, 1776. This was the day the Declaration was first read to the public and people were summoned to the celebration by the Liberty Bell.
8. 700 million lbs of chicken are consumed on this day.
9. Every 4th of July the Liberty Bell is tapped (not rung) 13 times for the 13 original colonies.
10. Other countries (Denmark, England, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden) also celebrate the fourth to attract American tourist and honor American citizens who have moved to their country.
