Last Sunday I was headed to my car to run some errands. I heard a fire cracker and I turned around and there was three teen-age boys coming from a weedy area and headed to an apartment here.
I got to the car and remembered something I had forgot so I headed back to my apartment. I looked up and there was fire at the end of the street, right where the boys had been. The boys and a lady were there trying to put the fire out.
I rushed inside and called 911. I told the lady dispatcher what was going on she started asking all kinds of questions and I was answering them as fast as I could. I informed her that there was a house just to the east and she wanted to know how many feet away. Finally I asked her if she could just send someone out.
After we got off the phone a fire truck showed up. They checked it out then got out the hose. They hosed down the area for about five minutes. The police came and talked to the boys and the woman. I don't know what happened cause I left.
I wonder if the boys or the woman would of ever called for help. I'm just glad that I seen it and called as fast as I could. We did have a wind and I didn't want it to spread.

@velvet53 If one can't get water, dirt might help.

@crazyhorseladycx Thank you so much. I have used dirt on a fire before but tuen would drown it with water.
I don't know if they got a ticket or has to appear in court. They do need something like community service for what they did.

I'm glad the fire department showed up quickly to put the fire out. It may have seemed small at the time, but a brisk wind could have whipped that thing up into an inferno in a split second.

@moffittjc That makes sense. I was calling from my landline but the info I gave her was very clear. I old her which apartment complex I live in, that is was north of Walnut Ave on 19th street which is only 2 blocks long, I gave her the side street where the fire was and I told her what school we were north of.
I am not upset because they did get here pretty fast. I just couldn't understand all the questions when I could of been up there helping.

@velvet53 In the past, part of the reason they kept asking so many questions was to keep you on the line as long as possible, so that their mapping system could pinpoint where you were calling from. Nowadays, with the technology they have, they should be able to determine pretty quickly your location based on the GPS location of the cell phone you are calling from (most people call from cell phone nowadays, not landlines).

More damage may be incurred if there are delays in responding help. Don't worry. You've done your part.

@velvet53 That's one thing and more houses would be burned. Here in our place where a community is thickly populated and houses are mushrooming and they seem to be closed each other. One single fire could raze those houses down.

@velvet53 That's gruesome. That would be great loss for the victims family. God forbids.
