Toni Simmons (Goldie Hawn), 21, is passed out in her apartment. Her neighbor, Igor Sullivan (Rick Lenz), sees her through her window, breaks the glass and enters her apartment. He smells gas and quickly opens the windows and doors and shuts off the stove. Toni has attempted suicide because she was stood up by her lover, dentist Dr. Julian Winston (Walter Matthau). Julian had told Toni that he was married with three children; but he is, in fact, single. After learning about Toni's suicide attempt, he decides that he wants to marry her; but he needs a wife to divorce. Toni doesn't want to be a home-wrecker; so she wants to meet Mrs. Winston to make sure the marriage is over. Julian asks his nurse, Stephanie Dickinson (Ingrid Bergman) to pose as his wife. She agrees, as she has had a crush on him for a long time. As you can imagine, this leads the way for a lot of lying and funny situations. This movie did well critically and financially. It's an older movie (1969) and is rated PG. "Just Go With It", a 2011 romantic comedy with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, was adapted from Cactus Flower and has a similar plot line.
