Most definitive story our Blessed Lord gave us telling "who is our neighbor " is the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Who is our neighbor? A man fell among the robbers, three people passed by - a priest, a Levite, and a Samaritan. A priest is a man of God. A Levite is supposedly the learned of the law. A Samaritan is Jew who married a non-Jew and therefore considered a traitor. A Samaritan dwelt in Samaria. The priest saw the fallen man, wounded and almost left for dead. He went on his way. The Levite did the same. Yet, the Samaritan stopped and tended to the wounds of the fallen man, cleaned and bound the wounds with oil and wine, put the man on his animal, and brought him to an inn for care. Two commandments our Lord Jesus gave us “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." For most of us, the first is easy enough to do. God is easy to love. But our neighbor? To love them as ourselves? Wow. Can we actually render our neighbor the same luxury we enjoy? Hah. The Samaritan knew the fallen man could have been him, and had that happened, he would need help. So help he gave. The Samaritan was the neighbor who loved others as he loved his self..
