A Very English Game

As some of you know I was annoyed that our England summer cricket season is no longer on free to view TV despite being shown by the BBC since the 1960's. It disappeared three or four years ago when the Sky satellite network got hold of it. Sadly, not everyone can afford to pay £18 a month to watch it on their special Sky Cricket channel so many of us have been following it on BBC radio. It seems I was not alone in my fury. I've recently signed two or three petitions asking for it to be put back on free to view TV and it seems the government are going to look into it. I hadn't thought about it but, as the petitions stated, when we have football or rugby matches England matches are free to view so why not cricket? After all, cricket has been our national sport since the 18th century. The whole issue blew up when England were in the final of the World Cup a couple of weeks ago. They played New Zealand and England won. I was actually fortunate enough to see it as we have Sky satellite entertainment channels and it was shown on one of those but it doesn't seem fair that many English cricket fans were unable to do so. Let's hope that by next year everyone in England will be able to watch the matches.
