Summertime Snacks: Dill Pickles

Dill pickles are a favorite snack of mine and I must say it has been some time since I've had one. My mom bought them often when I was growing up and I always shared them with friends when they came over to visit. I am talking about the big, fat and juicy ones that come in the gallon size jar. Those are the ones I am referring to. You can get some skinny ones in small size jars at the supermarket but they are not the same as the big ones that come in the gallon jar. I always bought these pickles for my girls and they loved them too. It is a much better choice for a snack vs. salty chips that are loaded with calories and sodium. Who are my MyLot friends that also love dill pickles? Photo: Pixaby, public domain

I prefer the small ones. And I often make my potato salad with just diced dill picklesand homemade mayo.

I absolutely love pickles, and eat them all the time! I also save all the pickle juice because we drink the juice on our paintball team when we're at tournaments because it helps prevent muscle cramping from dehydration.

Wow, that's another good use for it. I knew that it aided with heartburn and acid reflux but no clue on muscle cramps. That's awesome.

@kareng Yes, pickle juice is very popular among athletes, especially football players, for preventing muscle cramping. I had to drink some this past Sunday because I was starting to cramp from being on the paintball field for almost 6 hours without a break.

I love dill pickles, especially hamburger dills. I also like pickle juice, it helps with an upset stomach.

Me and I drink the pickle juice when I have a burning acid stomach. Back 20 years ago I bought the gallon size too, I have so many glass jars, I use them for beans and flour, sugar, etc.

Oh yes, the juice does wonders for acid reflux too. My hubby thought I was nuts when I told him that. I just said try it. It works.
