Things that make me go hmmm: California Dreaming

I was listening to the song "California Dreaming." The singer says that he "stopped into a church I passed along the way." Clearly he has never been to this church before. However the pastor of this church "knows I'm going to stay." Exactly how does the pastor know this? Is he psychic? Is he stalking the singer on Facebook? I want answers.

Before that part, he states that the weather is cold and that's the reason he enters the church. A pastor can definitely guess that he is there because of the cold and has no option but staying. Because a pastor can differentiate the continuous participants and the others. That's what I think :)
