School/ mass shootings in America are nothing new. They were doing it in the days of muskets and six-shooters but the turn of the century saw Columbine, school kids shooting up their class mates with semi automatic riflers, something unfathomable in most countries. Older white guys losing it like the Las Vegas shooting are just about comprehensible but schoolchildren? It is bonkers. The first documented school shooting was 1853 in Kentucky when a schoolmaster warned students not to harm his tame sparrow, threatening death. One of the boys stepped on the bird and killed it. When the boy returned to school, the master took the boy into a private room and strangled him. The boy's father upon hearing what had happened went to the school and shot the schoolmaster dead. Whats noticeable about Columbine where 16 kids were killed was it was about the same time the internet started to get going. I think the two are linked. The kids that shoot up schools tend to be losers and outsiders and Facebook and the like only magnify deficiency that in their lives. With two million kids who suffer from depression and anxiety and the like have 300 million guns to pick from that are currently circulating in America its not a good mix. In the UK if they lose it they tend to wave a broken beer glass around in the pub. When that cretin Trump blames mental illness for gun crime he would never admit that if there were ONLY 3 million guns out there there would be a hell of lot less deaths out there. Interestingly 80% of Republicans when polled wanted stricter gun controls but the gun lobby , the NRA.... is so powerful it makes the rules and so no restrictions.. The shootings will continue to ramp up in America as these deadbeat losers see going out in such a macho way with a big gun as their only moment when anyone notices them. They are pathetic. Why not restrict gun sales to this specific age group? Its not women or young black men shooting up schools. Its white kids. No one can understand why any American would need an automatic weapon.
