looking for an apartment...or not

i think it's already time for me to start looking for an apartment for the next academic year. it's a bit hard to find an apartment that looks good and that is close to the university building and that doesn't cost way too much. two years ago i lived in an apartment that's 2 minutes walking from the university and it wasn't too expensive (100$). i lived by myself from october to april and then i moved in a bigger apartment with my friend. in 2018. i changed the university and i couldn't find a good apartment in the new town, so i ended up in the student residence room with two girls i didn't even know until we started living together. the rooms are really small - litrally three beds and one little table, three shelves and three tights wardrobes + bathroom. i was lucky i had good roommates, while there there were some girls who couldn't stand each other and imagine living 10 months in that small room with someone you can't stand - not good. living in an apartment is definitely better option. you got your space, you can cook for yourself, you can invite your friends, you have the internet for yourself. the thing that i missed the most in the dorm was some privacy. i had the whole room for myself when the roommates go to their hometowns. the student residence is good because you have so many people next door and if you need help with something you can always find someone near. but the rooms are too small and the thing i missed the most was work table. but, even though you don't have the table in your room, you have a library if you want to study. the internet was terrible, but it can be fixed. but the thing is - it's really cheap. for ONLY 50$ A MONTH - you have a room (even though it's shared with 2 other girls), it's warm there in the winter, you have warm water and 2 meals every day and it's close to the university. what's better in your opinion? where have you live during your college days?

Well economically shared accommodation is always better but to be honest it’s not always the best scenario. I shared a house with 4 people before with separate people rooms and it was still hell for me. First, there is bathroom traffic. Second, noise problem. Third, was the mess. I mean other people’s mess.

@aureategloom Yeah and we girls tend to use the bathroom longer than men. So have you finally found a suitable place?

@flapiz found some places, but i think it's going to be the student residence again, but this time it's going to be better than the first time there.

yeah, that's why i lived by myself and then with just one girl. but last year i didn't have another option, but to share the room and bathroom with 2 other girls. the good thing is that we didn't have classes at the same time and we didn't wake up or need bathroom at the same time, so it was okay.

First I lived in a house where the rooms were turned into rooms for students. We were two in a room. It was nice at the beginning of my studies not to be alone. But after two years I moved out and had a room for myself. I could concentrate more on learning there.

it would be great to live with somebody, but to have separated rooms, so we're not alone and we can talk when we want to, but still we have our private space.

@aureategloom This happened in my second accomodation. There were two flats/apartments opposite each other on the same floor. Each room was turned into a room for a student. We could be alone and also meet each other, just as we liked it.
