You Don’t Know My Story

I don’t remember exactly how I came to write this, but I did and the message remains important!
You don’t know my story
But so often
You are quick
To judge me.
I once had
A beautiful home
A family who loved me
But that was all taken
From me.
My belongings now fit
In an old supermarket basket
Which I’d always near me.
My most cherished possession
A family photo
Long since faded.
You don’t know
My story
But you step
Over me
Like I don’t matter,
As I fight back tears.
I was once you
In fancy clothes
And designer shoes.

A moving poem. We forget often to count our blessings.

Wow, this is so true and amazing. When my family was homeless it sometimes felt as though we were looked upon with disgust. We were thankfully children of God so it didn't affect us-we knew who we were but many don't. =(

@Michellekidwell Yes we lived in a motel room for 7 months with 7 of us and 2 pets. It was a hard time in our lives but we saw many blessings and many changed lives come from it too.
One reason we try hard not to take things for granted like our home, food and my wonderful blessing of photography! =)

So true, I never knew you and your family had been in that situation, I’m glad you have a place now and a gift for photography!

Fighting back tears reading this as this story is all to familiar as i know of many homeless people whom once had very different lives and whom have amazing families but to life choices, and unpreventable things sometimes even those whom seem to have it all lose it....

When I first saw the title I thought of the Holocaust and how people did not know anything about those they murdered and did not care. They made up things like they do now. When I saw what you were talking about I thought you are right we do not know anything about the person that lost their home, job and even possibly their family and live on teh streets unless we ask, but, if we have never been homeless we cannot understand how they feel. People in different situations others are quick to judge and tell they what they should do but if they do not do their situation they cannot tell another what to do. Even those that have been in similar situations still do not know their situation. Life so hard and people can be so cruel and not care.
