The kindness of strangers

My wife and I have just got back from London, having attended a Proms concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday Evening and staying overnight in a hall of residence belonging to Imperial College.
On our walk from St Pancras Station to Imperial College I managed to trip on a pavement kerb somewhere near Grosvenor Square. I measured my length on the pavement and banged my right arm against the hard surface.
Almost immediately my wife and I were surrounded by people who had seen what had happened and rushed over to help. I was lifted to my feet and asked if I was OK, whether I had broken anything - I hadn't, not even my precious camera! - and if I was OK to carry on.
The small crowd then melted away and we carried on, with me rubbing my bruised forearm, which is still quite painful as it happens.
So Londoners care for nothing other than staring at their smartphones and being wrapped up in their own affairs? That's not my experience!
Thank you, London! You've definitely come up a notch as far as I'm concerned!

I am glad they helped you. That reminds me of the time I ran out of gas in my car when I had my two young kids with me. A nice man helped us. I will be forever grateful.
