Hi Everyone!I am hoping that these discussions will be an opportunity for all of us who one way or the other are inspired to contribute our resources for the betterment of this wonderful land. With the weakening ecological life support services due to environmental destruction and extreme poverty being some of the most urgent dilemmas our society must address, I would like to bring this topic in the forefront of our discussions. But before that I would like to relay in advance that I am more inclined to work for SELF RELIANCE than to heavily rely on what the government can do in these ends. Hopefully we can draw a workable action plan. I'm not quite a believer to the maxim that " I think therefore I acted"To start with I just want to know about your position to this issue,Do those living in extreme poverty in this country deserve to be assisted in the first place?

Thanks, I am using the term extreme poverty as those persons who experience hunger, without access to land, forced to live in high risk areas. Though it is very likely that those living in dire poverty are also to blame because of their own shortcommings, I believed that in the hearts of men, goodness abides, and we can contribute much for their transformations if we could offer them some hope of a new life. Therefore I feel that If we can aid those endangered animals, surely we must help those poorest of the poor - an endangered species in themselves. You friend what do you think ?

Very well said my friend. There are actual instances here in this country that the poorest are forced to sell even their bloods (in bloodbanks) and internal organs and corneas inorder for their families to eat. Recent studies conducted here indicated ironixally that these people are in one or another engage in some form of livelihood and employmeny. It's just they are not getting more value for their labor or there are not much opportunity them in our society. Currently we have 2.7 million families (representing 12 to 15 million persons)living in dire poverty in the philippines. Most of them are living in high risk areas like riverbanks, under the bridges, in the sidewalks, beside railroad tracks and in the upland areas. They cannot afford to stop working even for a day even if they have flus, for they have no savings. and most often they will continue to "work" ( God knows how they get their subssistence)even if they have flus. A growing number of families here though are able to work overseas ( these represents arounf (8 million vorkers)but as of now their role in helping these people are not yet felt. You friend, any idea how severe poverty in your area ? Any help from you to invite others to share their thoughts to these discussions willl be highly appreciated Thanks ... my friend
