BACKGROUND: So the person said that they had been rudely mistreated and insulted by those professing to be Christians trying to shove their religion down his throat. By comparison, he said that he had never been treated in such a manner by Satan worshippers. Had this conversation a while back in another social network which is now defunct. I'm posting this here to keep my comments recorded somewhere. Religious controversy always stokes debate. Everybody else was chiming in so I threw in my two cents. * * MY REMARKS: Insulting people is a proven form of faulty communication. It's sad if those who profess to be believers in Christ caused you offense. But have you ever thought that followers of Satan KNOW they don't need to persuade you to believe in anything? It doesn't matter whether they insult you OR whisper words that are pleasant to your ears. They have absolutely no interest in the wellbeing of your body or your soul. Showing you a path to salvation is not their concern. If you find The Way, you'll find it on your own. You won't get any help from them. Makes no difference to them whether you choose not to acknowledge Your Creator. So what if your soul is in danger. They would rather be damned than WARN YOU! Maybe that's why you think they are so nice when they don't offer you any suggestions. Do you just assume their motives are pure? “Even the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” “Faithful are the wounds of a friend.” * * *

They will know we are Christians by our love and example and it is a good thing to follow this philosophy.

Knowing you are Christian by your love and example struck me as an interesting comment.I really feel I live my life with love and that I am a good example but I am not a Christian. I am not claiming to be wonderful, but I certainly strive to be the best I can be.

@paigea But Christian "values" are universal rules to live by so it is quite right that you should follow the rules that every human should be living. Most Christian do not live up to the ideal and good people come in all or no religious forms. I am tolerant of all beliefs or no beliefs but firm in my personal ones which I never force on anyone.

Nobody can ever be forced to believe something. They might tell the person who is trying to force them that they believe. But a person's belief is a matter of their free will. Everybody has their own mind.

I am an unbeliever and often debate Bible, God and scripture. Most believers are polite with me but some can get ugly and intolerant too which usually ends the discussion for me

When you say "unbeliever" do you mean God, Satan, or both? Just curious. Wanted to know what you would debate with a Satan worshipper. I have honestly never met a Satan worshipper. I mean ... if I did, the person didn't tell me they were.

@cmoneyspinner Satanists have to believe in God, to me Satan is no more real than God so I' just be talking to them the same way

It takes all types to make up the world. To be honest? I'm not religious. I don't like feeling as if religion is being shoved down my throat. I have family that is religious, and while I don't like when they say "I'll pray for you" or "god bless", well I tolerate it. The same can't be said when it comes to other people though. I'm not going to disrespect a religion, but I won't stand by and let anyone make me feel bad for my beliefs or non beliefs. I won't sit around and listen to them try to push their religion on me either. However, there's no reason whatsoever to be disrespectful to anyone, and so while I won't let them push their religion on me, I won't be rude about it. Not unless they aren't backing down.

@andriaperry, @ScribbledAdNauseum - Thanks. I wasn't really expecting comments on this thread. I'm leaving a trail of "bread crumbs" behind for my kids and grandkids. When my mom passed away we found some stuff she had written and a collection of quotes she had saved. The writings were like a revelation. Like a side to her personality we didn't really know. My kids and grandkids don't pay any attention to what I do on the Internet and they don't often engage me in discussions. If they did I wonder if they would be surprised to learn that I'm a fascinating person OR if they would just think 'My mom (grandma) was wacked!'

Interesting way to look at it. Some might think I am one that tried to shove my beliefs down the throats of others and while I will admit I probably did that to some degree when I was younger. I've since made salvation available when I think someone is searching without getting upset if they aren't interested yet. I do enjoy talking about the concepts and I think I've done well discussing ideas with Arthur without letting his disbelief bother me. I hope that your kids or grandkids will be interested in your ideas down the road and that they will know how to find them all.

I have to admit I do get tired of people explaining Christianity to me, or inviting me to join. No people from any other religion have done that to me. None have ever been rude to me, at least. So I just say no thankyou a lot. I do find it frustrating that some Christians, I know, object to the prayers of Muslims. My husband's family will say grace in our home knowing that is not our way. Then they are horrified if my friend, who is Muslim, says their prayer. They both have the Old Testament in common. I feel annoyed at that behaviour, and make it clear that all have freedom of religion in my home. Though really I would prefer freedom from religion for myself.
