The party of the first part, me, is legally bound to post 50 songs with "of" in the title, to be read and listened to, under no legal obligation, by the party of the second part, you. We are at #44: "The Passion of Lovers" by Bauhaus. The order of songs in this countdown is entirely random, however, with Bauhaus vocalist Peter Murphy in a New York hospital at the moment, having suffered a heart attack, that band has been on my mind (even more so than usual) the last 24 hours or so. "The Passion of Lovers" was a single (their sixth overall) released off of their 1981 album (their second,) Mask. The tune reached #56 in the UK, and despite being an acoustic guitar-driven song, managed to rock the hell out. A classic piece of music from the goth pioneers. My favorite Bauhaus moment? I got to see the band in concert when they played the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver during their first reunion tour back in 1998. 80's hair metal band RATT played that same night (I would probably have went to that show had Bauhaus not been in town) at the Ogden Theater, a half-block up the street. Both shows let out at the same time, resulting in a very interesting combination of rock and rollers wandering around Colfax Avenue in the middle of the night. Black-clad and eyeliner goths and mullet and t-shirt rockers on the sidewalk, and I don't remember seeing a single fight or argument breaking out. As it should be! (Info verified by Wikipedia)
