I am not really a fan of Elvis, but I found myself watching a documentary about Elvis the other day. It talked about his earliest years living in abject poverty. It also discussed his father Vernon, who evidently had a lot of instability in his life, especially on the job front. It wasn't that Vernon couldn't or wouldn't work, so much as the fact that the jobs he did were odd jobs at best, and paid most times literal pennies. When Elvis found success in the entertainment industry, it turned around the fortunes of his entire family. It was said that during Elvis' life, he was very generous with his money, and that a lot of that had to do with him growing up knowing what being needy/poor/less fortunate was like. Sometimes, wealth makes people prideful, but not in Elvis' case. He remained humble and remembered his roots despite how famous he got. Though, as mentioned, I'm not really a fan, I can respect him for that.

Yes, Elvis was generous but was also very self indulgent as he collected a lot of "toys."
