1909 - The first auto race was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
1921 - Gene Roddenberry was born. He is an American television screenwriter, producer and the creator of the original Star Trek series and the spin-off The Next Generation. He died in 1991.
1966 - Lee Ann Womack was born. She is an American country music singer and songwriter. I Hope You Dance (see below) was a major crossover hit for her. She has won 5 Academy of Country Music Awards, 6 Country Music Association Awards and 1 Grammy. Another one of her famous songs is There's More Where That Came From.
1969 - Matthew Perry was born. He is a Canadian-American actor, producer, screenwriter and comedian. He is best known for his role of Chandler Bing on Friends from 1994-2004.

growing up in southern Indiana the 500 was everything!!!! I had the chance to go to the race 4 times in person and loved it every time!
