Archer hits the bulls-eye at Lords

So the second Ashes test was drawn and Australia lead 1-0 going into Headingley's third test in Leeds. The dynamic of the whole series changed when Steve Smith was approaching his third century in a row and was downed by a Jofra Archer bouncer, England's West Indian bowler. Joe Root clearly told the tall and rapid West Indian to try and rough up Smith with some short stuff an duly did, hitting him twice, the second time in the neck, a ball that killed Phillip Hughes type delivery. Smith left the pitch for a while but returned to resume his innings but clearly still suffering, slogging out for 92. Now I dont like it when bowlers target batsmen with short stuff. This was cynical and Archer should be told to tone it down next test. Smith is likely to miss this test and that could change the whole flow of the series, why Archer bowled 39 balls at 90 mph at his head.

I agree that it is hardly sporting to deliberately try to injure a batsman, but is that what Archer was doing? I think the point could be argued either way.

The field was set for leg side short stuff .....bouncers that follow the batsmen backing away.
