My husband was also born today. 1920 - The first commercial radio station, 8MK (now WWJ) begins broadcasting in Detroit. 1920 - The National Football League is organized as the American Professional Football Conference in Canton, Ohio. Canton is now the home of the Football Hall of Fame. 1942 - Isaac Hayes was born. He was an American singer/songwriter, pianist, producer and actor. "Soul Man" was written by Hayes and his musical partner David Porter. Hayes also wrote the score for the movie "Shaft". The "Theme from Shaft" (see below) won an Academy Award. He died in 2008. 1946 - Connie Chung was born. She is an American journalist, anchor and reporter. She has worked for NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and MSNBC. 1948 - Robert Plant was born.
