My home town

I was thinking today how much I love the place I live. It is a little market town called Chippenham set in the County of Wiltshire in England. I was chatting to someone here on MyLot and telling her what a safe place it is to live. I moved here after the birth of my first child, bought my present home and met people who became important to me here. I've lived in a few places during my lifetime and I'm fond of them all but I think Chippenham is the one I call my home. Are you happy where you live or do you long to be somewhere else maybe somewhere you lived in the past?

I love the city of Gainesville where I live now. I'm originally from West Palm Beach, Florida, where I grew up and lived until I left to go to the University of Florida in Gainesville. Fell in love with Gainesville while I was a student, but moved back to West Palm Beach when I graduated. After a few years, Gainesville just kept calling me back, and I knew in my heart that is where I wanted to live and raise a family. Been here for 25 years now.

I know what you mean about places calling you as that's how I feel about the place I live now. It just seems right.

@moffittjc It's kind of inbuilt. When I was young I wanted to be where the action was but now I can see past that and value a place for other attributes.

@sprite1950 Isn't that amazing how we just "know" when we've found our home?

I used to live in Salisbury, at the other end of Wiltshire. I am always reminded of my past residence when my monthly pension arrives care of Wiltshire County Council!

I think I remember you saying. In the past I have lived in Devizes and a village near Salisbury called Hindon. My dad was the village policemen there. My grandparents lived in Salisbury. I remember the house well. The address was London Road but I don't remember the number of the house. Many happy hours spent there though.

@indexer What took you to Leicester? Was it work?

@sprite1950 I lived in Winterslow to start with, then had lodgings in St Mark's Road before buying a place in Alderbury. I was only there for five years altogether, as librarian of the Technical College.

@sprite1950 I have tried many times to find a home elsewhere but I always end up back in Belfast. I love it and I hate it.

@xFiacre It rains a lot here in England too although the last few days have been dry. I love the warm weather.

You are fortunate that you love the place where you live. I have moved to so many places..cities and countries in my life. Good that I adapt to each change swiftly. I have enjoyed all of them and have made good friends everywhere.

You must make friends easily and that's a good quality to have.

@arunima25 I'm very sociable too. There aren't that many people that I can't get along with.

@Janet357 I wouldn't like that either. My town is just right, not too busy and not too quiet.

@sprite1950 just the opposite of my hometown: this is very crowded, polluted a.city. very far from major establishments.

Looks like you live in the quintessential picaresque English village.

I don't think the residents of Chippenham would be very happy to be told they live in a village!

@JohnRoberts It's a large historic market town with a population of over 45.000 but I think the picture makes it look at bit like a village.

@sprite1950 You have a point but it does not always work out that way. There are people or situations that can cause one not to be happy.
