National Senior Citizens Day National Spumoni Day 1888 - The first adding machine in the United States is patented by William Seward Burroughs. 1911 - The Mona Lisa is stolen by a Louvre employee. 1938 - Kenny Rogers was born. He is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer, actor and entrepreneur. He has sold over 100 million records worldwide making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. For almost 10 years he was part of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. As a solo artist some of his hits are: Lady, The Gambler, I Can't Unlove You, Love Lifted Me, Lucille, Anyone Who Isn't Me Tonight. 1941 - Jackie De Shannon was born. She is an American singer and songwriter. Her big hits were What the World Needs Now is Love (see below) and Put a Little Love in Your Heart. She composed Bette Davis Eyes for Kim Carnes.
