Day 19 Promise 21 Genesis 21:9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking. 10 Wherefore she said unto Abraham, “Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.” 11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight because of his son. 12 And God said unto Abraham, “Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. 13 And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.” Jealousy is an emotion that can be good or harmful to a person’s character. Paul showed how jealousy worked in a Christian’s favor. 2 Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (KJV) Sarah was jealous of Ishmael and his place in Abraham’s life and told Abraham to send Hagar and Ishmael away because he would not inherit what belonged to Isaac. God told Abraham to listen to Sarah and promised that not only would Isaac receive the inheritance He promised him, but Ishmael would become a nation because he belonged to Abraham. We know both Isaac and Ishmael became great nations. Isaac fathered Jacob who became Israel the father of the twelve tribes and nation of Israel. Ishmael had twelve sons and is the father of the Arab nation. Don’t let jealousy destroy your character. Let it work for your good to bring you closer to God.
