Day 21
Promise 23
Genesis 22:11 And the Angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, “Abraham, Abraham:” and he said, “Here am I.”
12 And he said, “Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him: for now I know that thou fear God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.”
13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14 And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.
Have you gone through a hard test in your life? A test that meant life or death to someone you love?
God tested Abraham’s faith and loyalty when He asked Abraham to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. When Abraham showed God his trust and faith in Him, God provided a lamb in place of Isaac.
Wrapped in this promise is God’s provision of a Savior. Abraham journeyed three days to Mount Moriah where he would sacrifice Isaac. Along the way, Isaac carried the wood for the sacrifice.
Jesus carried His cross to the top of Mount Calvary, also called Golgotha. The same Mount Moriah where God asked Abraham to offer Isaac. There He gave His life as a sacrifice for the world. Three days later, God raised Him from death to life, finishing the act of salvation for all mankind.
In providing the lamb for the sacrifice, God showed Abraham, the fullness of His salvation. Jesus is called the Lamb of God.
John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.
As God provided the ram for the sacrifice instead of Isaac, God provided the Lamb as our sacrifice.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Have you accepted God’s sacrifice for your salvation?
Let’s pray: Father, thank you for providing the Lamb for my salvation. Help me trust You when You test my faith. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
