Day 22
Promise 24
Genesis 25:21 And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.
22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If it be so, why am I thus?” And she went to enquire of the LORD.
23 And the LORD said unto her, “Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.”
24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
25 And the first came out red, all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.
26 And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel, and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bore them.
Pregnancy is a challenge. Sometimes it goes well, other times there are risk factors.
Isaac and Rebekah waited twenty years for a child. Isaac pleaded with God for a son because Rebekah was barren. With God’s promise to Abraham that his seed would be as numerous as the sand on the seashore or the stars in the sky, Isaac went before God and God listened to Isaac and Rebekah became pregnant, not with one child, but twins.
When Rebekah asked God about the turmoil in her womb God told her there were two warring nations in her womb and the elder would serve the younger. Thus, we have the birth of Esau and Jacob. Two children differed from each other in looks and manner.
When you have a difficult pregnancy do you seek your doctor’s clarification or God’s?
Rebekah didn’t have a problem pregnancy, and she didn’t have a doctor to go to for answers. She only had God, and it was God she sought to tell her what was going on in her womb. God’s answer relieved her mind as she prepared for the birth of her boys.
God’s answer was a promise, another piece to the promise He gave Abraham regarding his seed. God fulfilled His promise to Abraham one step at a time.
Are you waiting on a promise? Does it seem like God forgot you? With what do you struggle? God hasn’t forgotten. Everything will become clear in His time.
Let’s pray: Father, Your promise is for my good and Your glory. Help me rely on and trust in You for the outcome. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
