Day 24
Promise 26
Genesis 26:24 And the LORD appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.
25 And he built an altar there and called upon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaac’s servants dug a well.
What does it take for you to believe a promise? Does the promise need to be carried out right away?
God promised Abraham He would multiply his seed and they would possess the land of Canaan. He made the same promise twice. God told Isaac, He would multiply his seed and they would possess the land. Here again, God gave Isaac the same promise with a blessing and told him He would multiply his seed because of his father, Abraham.
God’s promise to Abraham and Isaac was not immediate. It takes time to raise a seed and birth a nation. Abraham had one son, and Isaac two. Both men needed to go through testing and trials. Both men loved their wives but feared for their lives because of them as they were beautiful women and they lied to protect themselves.
In the testing, God proved them and told them their seed would inherit the land. When they passed God’s test, they built altars and dug wells.
Is God testing your faith? Is he proving you? Do you feel you’re in the fire? Build an altar and dig a well. Your altar is prayer and your well is the Word of God. The more you pray and seek God’s will for your life, the more you will hear from Him. The more you read the Word of God, the deeper you dig the well of eternal life. You won’t receive water without digging a well. Your life will dry up if you don’t read God’s Word.
God made a promise to you. Do you know what it is? God promised you seed and land. Without God in your life, you will have neither. With God, praying and reading His Word, He will fulfill His promise to you.
Let’s pray: Father, help me build an altar and dig a well. Let me stand upon Your promise that my children will inherit eternal life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
