I almost burned my house

Calgary, Alberta
August 29, 2019 12:31pm CST
So I was boiling some herbs and vegetables on a pot at the top of the stove in low heat because I want to make a vegetable stock. I was boiling it in low heat. My plan was to boil it for an hour. But my ADHD made me forget I am boiling something because I was busy talking to the phone with my girlfriend. I was like talking to her for hours and I never noticed that the stock I am making already dried up and the vegetables are already burnt. I only realized my house is about to burn when my neighbors started pushing my doorbell like crazy.

This happened to me. But did you have fire in your house? I only had smoke.

No fire but lots of smoke and a burnt expensive pot.

@CaptAlbertWhisker When this happened to me my father was home. He didn't even notice the smell of smoke.

Next time you call just in the kitchen, you don't need to walk out.

Sometimes we all get distracted and such things can happen. Better to be careful.

I am happy I live alone because if I have housemates they will be nagging at me for being negligent

@CaptAlbertWhisker But they would have raised an alarm. So there is a positive side of it too.

Next time you shall set an alarm to remind yourself. It can avoid accidents. In fact today there is a kind of electrical herbs pot and everything is automatically. You just need to put the herbs inside the pot and put water inside. The power will be off when it is done.

Yeah I should do that with my phone so I will never forget I am cooking something. I do not want to be an unintentional arsonist.

It happened to me too; and so many people here said I should use an alarm clock to remind me that I am cooking something. Good thing your house did not burn!

Yeah, Damn ADHD, I think I should be taking lithium treatments again because I am too careless without medication.

If I did this at my parent's house they would have nagged at me for weeks.
