Day 27 Promise 29 Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” And he said, “I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.” 27 And he said unto him, “What is thy name?” And he said, “Jacob.” 28 And he said, “Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.” 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, “Tell me, I pray thee, thy name.” And he said, “Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name?” And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. Many times, we wrestle with decisions that could change the course of our lives. We want to make the right decisions that will benefit us the most. We weigh the pros and cons until we decide what gives us the best outcome. Jacob was returning to his homeland and father, Isaac. He knew there was a risk involved because Esau vowed to kill him when he stole the blessing from him. When Jacob learned Esau was coming to meet him, he sent a gift ahead of him to appease Esau’s anger, and stayed behind and wrestled with a man all night. Jacob wouldn’t let him go until he received a blessing. The Man, the pre-incarnate Son of God, blessed Jacob by giving him a new name, Israel, meaning Prince of God. As soon as Jacob received his blessing and a new name, the Man disappeared and Jacob knew it was God he wrestled with. Only God could change his name to Israel. What decisions have you wrestled with that turned out to be life-changing? Let’s pray: Father, You have blessed my life many times. I give You praise for all You have done for me. Help me with the decisions I wrestle with to know You are in the decision. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 30 August 2019 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
