I know I’m late. I’m in Fort Wayne for the state finals....not as a player but a spectator. I’m here to attend the annual meeting about our next season and to cheer those getting their plaques for wining tournaments this year. Here’s another song title that you might not think is real, but it is!
#9: I Forgot to Remember to Forget - Elvis Presley
Remember a couple of days ago when JJ said he couldn’t remember if he’d taken his medicine or not? And I told him I had a song on the countdown to dedicate to his adventure?
Here it is.
I first heard this from another Sun Records artist, Johnny Cash. It has one of those “confusing” titles, not unlike “I’m Left, You’re Right, She’s Gone” (also by Elvis), or the first Browns single, “Looking Back to See” (with its chorus of “I was looking back to see if you were looking back to see if I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me”).
This isn’t “fun,” though. Instead, the lyrics tell of a heartbroken man who has an old love on his mind all the time.
The other side of the 45 was “Mystery Train,” which is much better remembered (or more played) in the Elvis world. I like this song better.
I Forgot to Remember to Forget
Written by Charlie Feathers and Stan Kesler
Recorded by Elvis Presley
Released as a single, 1955

The first thing I thought of was Elvis at the end forgetting songs.
