I recently learned that my grandpa (the one I mentioned before who was schizophrenic) may at one point in his life have been exposed to an anti-malaria medication/drug called mefloquine (AKA Lariam), and that IT actually may have triggered his schizophrenia.
My dad & I got to talking about me being on Doxycycline and he sort of casually said to me "one medicine you never want to take is mefloquine" and explained that little nugget of family history to me.

Sometimes they don't realize that certain medications have serious side effects until years later, even if they've been approved by various governments around the world.
All meds have potential side effects. But some have more serious potential side effects than others.

There are many meds that while they can help in some ways, they damage in others. They knew less about all that years ago.
