I Did it!!!

Hubby is away for the week and both girls are working so I'm pretty much alone at home. I promised myself I was going to finish editing my novel while my husband is away because I knew I would be pretty idle otherwise... and probably procrastinating with online games and such (which I was for the first 2 days). But today I buckled down and finished editing my novel. AND, I even found myself tearing up reading the closing chapters. I couldn't believe it! I never cry when reading books - watching tv shows and movies, yes, but not reading. I'm so proud that my own writing moved me that much. I am going to do another read through keeping some other comments about background information on the characters in mind. I will be meeting with an editor at the writers' conference at the end of October so that will be my first kick at the proverbial can with this book. I got my 62,000+ words up to almost 67,000 words. It may go up even more. Anyway, I journaled, I read, and I edited.... and it's only been 3 days! And I did laundry. Let's see if I can get a full read through with some polish done within the week.

I'm glad you were able to edit it! And you should be proud, it sounds like you worked hard on it!

I got an email regarding the writers conference at the end of October and now I'm all nervous. It basically gave me the instructions I had to follow to send my submission in advance to the editor I will be meeting with. It's just going to be the first 15 pages but I have to make sure those first 15 pages are polished and the guidelines followed to a T. I have 8 weeks but I'm still nervous.

I had someone read my manuscript. She gave me some feedback in the form of 9 pages of typed notes. It took me a while to get around to making the changes I needed to do. By a while I do mean months.

Thanks. I have been taking time for myself doing pretty much nothing... what I usually do when my husband takes this trip every year. My girls and I are going to Vegas at the end of the month to see Donny and Marie.

No, I don't plan on doing that. My first goal is to get an editor and an agent.

Thank you. it has been a long process and a lot of giving up. Staying motivated on something when you are doing it in solitude, alone, is difficult.

We are already at the 14th of September. You are not very active around here, so, maybe you can come back mylotting now. Can you please tell me about your novel? What is it's name? Maybe there is an abstract or any plot summary? I wish you good luck with the novel.

I try to get on mylot at least once a day but my novel and treadmill are my priorities. I also have a chronic illness which slows me down considerably. The story is called Fortune Foretold. It's about a woman who goes to a psychic and really doesn't believe in what is said. She meets and falls in love with a guy who is nothing like the the psychic predicted. Eventually she realizes that a lot of the psychic's predictions were right and her new husband is not the man she thought he was. That's not the full synopsis. I'd rather keep that on the down low for now.

@stringer321 Thank you. I've been managing this illness for 23 years. A lot of money spent trying to find something that will make things better. There is no cure so it's more a know your limitations and pace yourself way of life.

@patgalca I'm sorry to read about you chronic disease, I hope a good treatment will be found for you and you will get it. Watch out your health. Maybe there is a better food you can eat ? Thanks for sharing a little bit of the novel. I like the synopsis.

A whole week? I would go to the movies, window shop, go to the lake and fish... Or I would drive to the beach.

I usually do go on a shopping spree with one or both of my girls when my husband takes this trip. It's always me getting them ready for back-to-school. This is the first year in 20 years I don't have someone going off to school. And they don't have much time for me. I do hope to drive down to Toronto and see the headstone at my parents' grave. I am sure my mother's name has been added to it by now and my family would love if I sent them a picture. Beach weather is done. Autumn is in the air for sure.
