Cats, dogs and pets in general are usually more fun, more of the time. Don't get me wrong, I've seen plenty of discussions here about things other than pets that were fun and interesting.
I think that people who can relate to pets and share their experiences with others who understand are typically in for a long and mostly enjoyable discussion.

@Clemensau A young couple that just moved into our Congregation has a pet snake. 
It's a small one not one of those big, dangerous ones.

of course and even so that I have no pets I enjoy reading about what other members share among themselves about cats, dogs, horses...etc could be interesting hear also about sneaks as pets

I guess the reason is that cats and dogs are very invaluable friends to have around the home.
