Can a kitten die after only one day of severe illness?

I have a kitten who was sick. Yesterday he didn't eat or drink water. He was very upset and sad. It was heartbreaking to see him. He meowed in a weird way. He had pneumonia. I gave him an antibiotic. It was Friday evening and the vet's office was closed. Today the kitten disappeared. Can a kitten die so fast? He is not very young. He is 5 months old. I am feeling so guilty. I feel that it's my fault. He asked for help and I only gave him some water and a pill. I couldn't do anything else. Maybe I should have done more. He suffered a lot.

If they are sick enough they can. You did all that you could for him. We had a stray show up a couple years ago and we tried to help it, and it passed quickly. About the same age as yours.

It's very sad. Today I found the kitten. He is still very sick. Today he refused to eat and he drank a lot of water. Yesterday he refused even to drink water. I hope he will survive. He searched for places to hide.
