"animus" The word is not very cheerful and hopeful and still it describes what many are experiencing in one way of another. Here are some synonyms of the word of the day. hostility · animosity · antagonism aversion· · friction · opposition · resentment · dissension · rivalry · feud · conflict · discord · contention · acrimony · bitterness · rancor · dislike · ill feeling · ill will · bad blood · hatred · hate · loathing · detestation · odium · malice · spite · spitefulness · venom · malevolence · abhorrence · malignity · grudges · grievances · needle I wonder how many times I find an occasion to use these words. I wonder if I labeled something with this word if it would inspire me to fix the situation. It has given me something to think about.

words like this drive me crazy in the word puzzles I do on my phone. I end up having to cheat to figure out what it is supposed to be.

I guess that the cheerful and hopeful thing is when there is no animus in our life and world. Have an animus-free day!

@Writingghost It's nice to learn new words. My only problem these days is remembering them.

At least you turned it around yourself rather than telling me it was a bad word. I consider it a descriptive word.

Definitely a negative word. Pick a cheerful word for your next one, please! :-D

@Writingghost In school I used to win the spelling bees all the time. Fun times to learn words.

Apparently not many have and not many like it. I love language so most words have some appeal to me.

It is not a happy word, and a very descriptive word and appropriate at times. No one is required to like the word of the day or use it. I love learning new words.

I have not seen this word's usage and not sure if I would need to use it. But it is interesting that a lot of words in English have so many synonyms.
