Time to toss out some bird seed and gather in another song with a type of bird in the title! Believe it or not, Hillbilly here only has two country songs in this particular top ten. And, before you ask, yes I'm feeling fine. Anyway, here's the next song on the list. #8: I Heard the Bluebirds Sing - The Browns I still have a hard time believe all three of the Browns are gone. They left in rapid succession, too, no more than two years after being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Eldest sister Maxine was the final loss, early this year. But man!!!! What music! I'm a sucker for harmony, and nobody does it like family. The three siblings from Arkansas began with the hit "Lookin' Back to See," then their career seemed to be doomed as Jim Ed received his draft notice. The Browns' friend, Jim Reeves, kept the Browns' name on the lips of the people at RCA, and Jim Ed would go to recording sessions while home on leave. Then came that monster 1959 hit "The Three Bells," and all the toiling and maneuvering around Jim Ed's Army enlistment paid off. Wonderfully. But before that....THIS. This is a happy love song, written by a Canadian who had no idea it was going to become a classic in Canadian and American country music (he thought the song he'd written as the "A" side would be "the hit"). It's full of love, harmony, and fiddles. Everything I love about country music. I am also ignorant about the song. However, it appears that the song will be fascinating.
