Notes On The "Found Footage" Film Genre

The “found footage” film genre is one of the most annoying forms of film making ever devised. Often, the films in the genre are presented/passed off as if they are found footage (hence the name of the genre) even when they are not ACTUALLY.
The reason I say it’s annoying is simple: the found footage genre is infamous for uniquely shoddy film making work, the worst part is it’s DELIBERATE.
It seems the creators think the more shoddy the film making is, the more raw/authentic they can sell it as being.
By the way, when I say the work is shoddy, I mean that often the basic camera work is unstable/shaky, the picture is often grainy (as if shot on an old school home video cam) among other things.
I’d NEVER pay good money to see a “found footage” genre film.

One of my favorite movies is a "Found Footage" movie -- Cloverfield.

@LindaOHio I'll see if I can find it for free to watch somewhere (seeing as I don't want to waste $ on a film whose genre I generally have an aversion to) and I'll write my thoughts on it later.
I'm willing to keep an optimistic view, that since you like it I might be pleasantly surprised despite my past experience w/such films.

@jnrdutton If you don't like found footage, you won't like this because it's filmed with a hand-held camera, etc. Just what you don't like.

This started with The Blair Witch Project. I will not watch found footage films.

@JohnRoberts Oh I know it started with Blair Witch, I couldn't bring myself to watch more than the preview for it, which I hated.
