Using a food blender

A friend of mine was recently given a food blender as a birthday present. I thought it was a nice thing for somebody to get as a gift because this sort of thing can be expensive to buy. But my friend was not happy with it because she said that she would never use it , and it would just take up space in her cupboard. So I suggested that she give it to somebody else, but she does not want to do this because she does not like giving aways thing that people have brought her. I said that maybe she should have a go at making milkshakes with it or something. Do you own a blender, and do you use yours or is it just sat at the back of a cupboard.
