I suspect if I make this list again in a couple of months I will rediscover some class Neil Young song and the list will change.
for today and right now, Down by the River is my 2nd favorite Neil Young song.

Wow, you got me on this one. I know the Buddy Miles vesion. (Got to see Miles live at the Cotton Bowl early 1970's he and Lobo were opening for Three Dog Night), I do not think I had ever hear Neil Young's version. So do I assume that Niel Young wrote this?
By the way I'm listening to the link as I write. I love the music.

Neil Young wrote the original, he has recorded with Crazy Horse (his backup band) and a couple of other times as well.
It was also in his MTV unplugged album I think. I will have to go look to confirm that.

@DocAndersen Somewhere in the mid 1970's I got side tracked with work, with career and family, I quit being involved. By the time things slowed enough for me to pay attention again, sometime in the 80's I didn't care for what I was hearing for the most part. I only occasionally listen anymore. But when I listen, it's the old stuff. Saying that there are a few more recent songs and groups I do like. AC/DC and the Scorpions both come to mind.
