Ted Striker, an ex-fighter pilot, is afraid of flying due to a trauma he experienced during the war. He now drives a taxi. Recovering his courage Striker buys a ticket on a flight that his wartime girlfriend, Elaine, is a stewardess on. He hopes to win her back on the flight from Los Angeles to Chicago.
After dinner many of the passengers begin to get ill. Dr. Rumack surmises that they had the same meal to eat; and that it's food poisoning. The stewardesses discover that the pilot crew is ill, including Captain Oveur and Roger Murdock. There is no one on board to fly the plane. Elaine contacts the Chicago control tower for assistance. Tower supervisor Steve McCrosky instructs her to activate the plane's autopilot which is an inflatable pilot doll named "Otto". This will get them as far as Chicago but will not be able to land the plane. Elaine and Dr. Rumack convince Ted to take the controls and fly the plane.
One of the most famous gags in the movie: "Surely you can't be serious? I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."
Do you want to find out what happens? You will have to watch the movie...at least once. Some of the humor is slapstick, some is sight gags...It's a little bit of everything. Watch out for cameo appearances of other celebrities not listed. I give this film my recommendation.
This movie is rated PG.
Thank you for stopping by; and happy viewing.

It's one of my favorites. I love "assume crash positions."
