James Dean Gone Too Soon

My musical post on a sad note today September 30 in 1955 the world lost a brilliant and very young American actor named James Dean. I have included The Eagles song dedicated to him “James Dean”. Considering he was only 24 he managed to accomplish so much more than others could in this short time working in Hollywood with talented actors and actresses like Elizabeth Taylor, Clark Gable, Rock Hudson, and Natalie Wood. He had been nominated for an Academy Award for his role in “East of Eden”. You could say that he had so much to live for and no time to die. If only he had just a love of acting but he also had a love of auto racing and he was on his way to a race that was to take place in Salinas, California on October 1 -2. He never made it with a car crash in his brand new Porsche 550 Spyder which he was driving he made to heaven instead. It is amazing that they say the driver of the car which collided practically head-on with the tiny sports car that Dean was driving had only minor injuries. However, at the time the other driver was a college student of 23 and wound up living in the shadow of the tragedy he had caused even though he was not charged. How many of you have seen the James Dean movies?
I suggest listening to all Eagles songs repeatedly. In one sitting for the best effect! I do not own this.

I’ve read that he was an uncredited extra as a soldier in the original The Day the Earth Stood Still. Don’t know if that’s true or not. I was at his grave at the beginning of September, on the way home from Fort Wayne.

That is very interesting that you saw his grave @FourWalls You can find most anything online and here is the information I got about the other movie. Dean was a Soldier in the film. He had a full speaking part but it was cut because the Director, Robert Wise, felt that it was quite bad and that it threw the scene off. Wise alluded that he only got the role because he knew someone who was close to Wise who vouched for his acting abilities. After filming the scene and seeing it in the Dailies Wise said he would rather take the risk of pissing of his friend than keep his terrible scene in the final film. Wise alluded that Dean's characterization was confusing and the Dean's soldier seemed angry and out of place. It was so bad he mentioned it in passing to Elia Kazan who was looking for someone for the lead role in 'East of Eden'. Elia thought it was an interesting choice to play a simple soldier so out of the way angry and discontented. He had seen him in other roles, mainly on TV, so he called Dean in and had him read for Cal Trask and loved him. The rest you can say is film history.

I don't think I watched any movies that he was in. If I did I didn't recognize him.

Even though James Dean was before my time, I did see his movie "Rebel Without A Cause" as part of a high school project.

He only made 3 movies which I saw plus I saw him in 2 Broadway shows and his little TV work. He was good but....so many are good for a few years and then you never hear of them again or if you do it is for the wrong reasons. I don't know how long he would have lasted with the social media today.

@RasmaSandra Or become another Nichlos Cage or Tab Hunter or so many who had some fame for awhile and either lost it or wasted it away!

He might have eventually turned away from movies and become part of the Indy 500 or the Formula One races in Europe @GreatMartin
