Sweet Kiss of Death

Imagine yourself in the stands of a horse race, cheering on your horse and the jockey atop the beast. The man isn't expected to win the race, but you watch as he and the horse take the lead. The crowd around you lets out a riotous round of whooping and applause. The man has taken the lead and won! You are overjoyed and go to congratulate the man only to find that he expired during the race. He's dead! What he never succeeded to in life, he did so in death. The man had never won a race, and his first win would also be his last. He had succumbed to a heart attack. This actually happened in June of 1923. Official believe that his heart gave out on him perhaps due to a drastic and quick loss in weight. Jockeys have to be a certain weight to race and he had to lose 12 lbs to do so. Link is to info about it, but do not believe the pictured jockey is the same man that succumbed to death. Sweet Kiss was the name of the horse.
Frank Hayes won a horse race while he was dead! His horse, Sweet Kiss, would go on to be known as Sweet Kiss of Death afterward.

He did not fall?

No. I think his feet were most likely stuck in the stirrups. That probably kept him from falling. I am not sure, but I believe that the jockeys also have to nearly lay on the back of the horse as it helps with speed. This is probably why he did not fall.

I believe jockey's must nearly lay on the horses back as it helps with speed. His feet were most likely in stirrups that kept him more stable on the horse.

I am sure they honored him and may have posthumously given him an award for winning the race with the horse. I think the Jockey's feet would have been in stirrups which kept him stable.
