International Day of Non-Violence National Fried Scallops Day 1535 - Jacques Cartier discovers the present site of Montreal in Canada. 1925 - John Logie Baird performs the first test of a working television system. 1959 - Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone premieres on CBS. 1951 - Sting was born. He is an English singer, songwriter, bass player and actor. He was the principal songwriter, lead singer and bassist for the Police (1977-1984). He went solo in 1985. Some of the better known Police/Sting songs: Every Breath You Take (see below - became the most played song in radio history), Roxanne, Brand New Day, Desert Rose, Message in a Bottle. 1970 - Kelly Ripa was born. She is an American actress, producer, dancer and talk show host. She played Hayley Vaughan on All My Children from 1990-2002 and Faith Fairfield on Hope & Faith from 2003-2006. She has been the host of Live! With Kelly and Ryan since 2001. Ryan Seacrest is her present co-host. In 2014 the Hollywood Reporter named her one of the Most Powerful People in Media.
