Would you throw away your friendship because he/she has fallen for you?

My friend (married girl) told his bestfriend (single guy) that she thinks, she's falling for him.
The guy also confesses that he's also falling for my friend but he's denying it to himself coz he knows they cant be together. They both cried and he was like ready to throw away thier friendship but she said ... No, we can still be friends. We just need time to kill these feelings and be friends again like we are before. The guy also thinks the same and said that ...If I could only, then I would marry you but we cant.
Their situation is very difficult.
I think my friend found the love, care and attention she thinks she deserves to his bestfriend compared to her husband. All i knew is that her husband is a player. She once vent to us, her colleagues about the matters she has with her husband.

Would you stay as friends? or would you throw it away? Did you have similar experience?

@renicemae so that's the missing but very significant detail that should have been mentioned in your discussion. i'll bet the responses would be very different if you included that.

I wonder what makes it difficult when they both love each other.
I and the boyfriend are best of friends before we commit to a relationship, and I’m telling you, it’s a good relationship with a friend coz you are already comfortable with each and at the same time know each other.

friendship is actually a good foundation. if they go the next level then eventually break up instead of marrying each other, they can remain good friends because of that foundation.

It sounds to me like she wants to be a player like her husband and is trying to justify her feelings for another man. Voicing her feelings to the other man, was reckless on her part. Now, he knows how she feels and is playing along with her. It's best for her to walk away before things get out of hand.

@renicemae I think it is possible, it depends on the maturity of both those individuals involved. If they are clear with their thoughts and know their boundaries then they can stay as friends.

You will gain a boyfriend, and lose a friend. You will lose him anyway, so if you feel the same way for him, I'd say go for it.

@yoalldudes actually, it will become an extramarital affair because @renicemae mentioned in the comments that the guy is single, but her friend is actually married.

@hereandthere Oh I see I missed that out. Extramarital is a no-no when there are kids involved.
